The Age of Romanticism and the Industrial Revolution
This month, students are reading Romantic authors in American literature (Washington Irving, Edgar Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne) and are exploring the impact that historical events such as the industrial revolution had on American literature. From analyzing poetry to exploring timelines in US History, students have been having a blast!
The Age of Faith/Puritan Era
After studying the history of the Puritan Era in AP US History, students in American Literature had the choice to read either The Crucible or The Scarlet Letter. Students lead their own literary circles and discussions and drive the conversations of their group. Students have truly taken hold of these literary circles and have extended them to group chats at home and online discussions where they can continue their conversations. The level of depth the students are reaching with each text is astounding and has led to increased connections between history and literature. It is clear that students are taking advantage of our new space to host their literary discussions.
