Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
On October 2, over 100 students from learning communities B and C visited the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Students experienced the "Still We Rise" exhibit and walked through a 400 year journey of African American history. It was an incredibly informative and moving experience as students navigated through a replica slave ship, experienced the cramped quarters of a holding dungeons, sang code songs, and finally emerged to freedom. Please see our gallery below for highlights from the field trip as well as student reactions.
In their own words...
We truly felt the historical event as if we were experiencing it ourselves. The tour guides were amazing and the interactive elements made it an incredible experience. (L.V)
I think it was interesting to see the evolution of African American culture and how their lives changed and improved from the time of slavery toward equality and freedom. (J.S)
I learned a lot about the Middle Passage and the journey of the enslaved people and had a great time at America's largest African American History Museum. (Y.K)
